Where the truth lies

©Cameron Altaras

Sometimes the truth lies

Because it hurts too much

To tell, it reshapes its meaning

One letter at a time to

Soften the blow, a thud

On the ear drum dissolves like

Cotton candy sweetness takes

Your mind off the Carny’s

Toothless grin.

When the truth lies

You’ve got to wonder if its

Raison d’être, replete with

Grammatical corrections and

Literary-worthy phrasing

Ever made it past compassion’s

Sniff-test.

If the truth lies

The core bleeds and

The heart caves

Under the strain of

Shoving memories of

The chewed bits through

Pipe dreams.

Where the truth lies

Is the last place

You get to, when lies

Painted the path

That got you

There, in the

First place.
